Centering the Margins

The shared home of Nate and Melissa Ledbetter, where we dream of underestimated communities becoming good places to grow up and grow old.

Dear Friends,

About 18 months ago, we sensed a shift might be coming. After months of listening, wondering, and waiting to understand what that might mean, Nate received an unexpected phone call at almost exactly the 18-month mark. That call led to a beautiful conversation and eventually, an invitation.

As we have discerned this next season, we have begun to sense a renewed call to return to the interior of the United States. More and more, we are persuaded that every community is, in some way, a borderland.

After months of prayer, countless conversations, and careful discernment with our community, we have decided to embrace a new chapter of life and work. We have accepted an invitation to join the people and place of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, a Delta crossroads community marked by both beauty and pain, where we hope to become neighbors, listen well, and participate in the patient work of mutual transformation.

Nate will serve as Executive Director of Home Again Pine Bluff and the Freedom Center, an early-stage nonprofit working alongside the community toward a flourishing future.

Home Again works alongside neighbors at the intersection of dignified housing and pathways to homeownership, leadership formation, and flourishing neighborhoods in an often underestimated community. We would be thrilled to share more if you are interested.

We’ll be near immediate family for the first time in 20 years, and our boys will attend high school with their cousins.

As we make this transition, we are inviting a small circle of friends and families to walk together with our family and this work for the long haul.

An Invitation

As part of this next chapter, we offered to raise $20,000 annually to help sustain the Executive Director role and support our family as Home Again Pine Bluff grows toward long-term sustainability.

May we invite you to prayerfully consider whether you might feel compelled to walk with us through a monthly, annual, or multi-year gift?

For those who are able, we would be deeply grateful for partners willing to make a long-term commitment for the next seven years or beyond.

Your support will help sustain our family and give us the capacity to invest deeply in the people and place of Pine Bluff for years to come.
