U.S. House and Senate Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Expand Charitable Giving
“ The legislation reestablishes the temporary $300 above-the-line deduction for people who do not itemize their deductions and establishes a $600 deduction for couples filing jointly in 2021. It imposes a penalty for overstating contributions. The bill also extends for one year the increased limits on deductible charitable contributions for individuals who itemize and for corporations. The newly introduced Universal Giving Pandemic Response and Recovery Act would further strengthen the current UCD by:
Raising the deduction’s cap to over $4000 for individuals and over $8000 for married couples filing jointly.
Allowing non-itemizers to deduct cash gifts made to donor-advised funds (DAFs).
Extending the deduction through 2022
Abara’s Compensation Process
Focused on Partnerships + Engagement
The compensation for Abara Borderland Connections focused on “Partnerships + Engagement” is established and reviewed by the Executive Director in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
The compensation level is established using a combination of external peer data of other not-for-profit roles, as well as evaluating current job duties and comparing them to other comparable for-profit positions.
In addition to outside factors, the Board also considered cost of living for the Ledbetter family and overall ministry expenses to sustain long-term on the border. Donations “above and beyond” annual salary caps are rolled over into the following fiscal year budget. This allows the Ledbetter family to avoid starting from scratch each year. Additional fundraising projects may include meeting overall goals set by the Board of Directors.
